identify the most important and answer- able questions for UK library practice. Libby’s research is further explored in her article Shaping the Future: a research agenda for UK Libraries. Look out for our next call for applications for our research award on our blog.

The group is co-ordinated by a commit- tee which includes members from different sectors within the library, information and knowledge world who bring a range of experiences and knowledge. In the past couple of years, the com- mittee (alongside some ex-committee members) have been engaging in our own research, led by Professor Alison Brettle, who has been a member of the committee for many years and is a trustee of CILIP. Our research aimed to gain a baseline understanding of UK library, information and knowledge practitioners’ experiences, skills and confidence in taking part in research as part of professional practice. Another aim was to provide an opportunity for the research team, who are all library, information and knowledge practitioners, to gain research skills through participation in the project. The project team had a range of exper- ience in undertaking research, so they were able to bring their expertise to the areas in which they were confident, whilst also learning new skills in the areas where they were less confident. We are currently working on the dissemination of our findings and our first output is our baseline report which presents the findings from the survey element of the project: Library, Information and Knowledge (LIK) practitioners’ experiences, skills and con-

fidence of taking part in research as part of professional practice: a baseline report. Look out for more papers coming soon. The findings of this research will help develop strategy around research for the profession, identify training needs and interventions to encourage research ensuring that key values are embedded into library, infor- mation and knowledge practice. If you are interested in research and its application to practice, then why not join LIRG? You will get access to a wide range of training opportunities and information. We encourage you to join the conversation.

hospitals, public to name a few. We’re lucky to have such a wealth of expertise amongst our members but are always looking for new people to join our ranks. New members will no doubt benefit from the shared wisdom of our group and we’re a lovely bunch in general.

Community,DiversityandEquality Group (CDEG) – https://tinyurl.com/CILIPCDEG The CILIP Community, Diversity and Equality Group is a group aimed at fos- tering diversity in the library and infor- mation sector (and in the communities that they serve), supporting them to run sustainable services based on local needs. We work to see our values embedded in CILIP’s work, develop relationships with organisations aligned with our values to further them in the sector and produce a forum to share and promote our views. We also support library and information sector workers who share in our ethos and ensure accessibility of and freedom to information.

Our membership comes from varied library sectors: schools, universities,

Though mightily talented, our member- ship is currently on the low end and so our limiting factor is chiefly the number of people that are present and able to provide their time and expertise. We are current- ly making steps towards having a bigger presence online, including the creation of pages on social media platforms such as LinkedIn and BlueSky. We are also in the process of publishing a newsletter. The world has undergone a lot of changes in the past few years and one of the challenges of running a group based on such topics is to keep up with them all. Running events that keep the finger on the pulse of current events is therefore a necessity: our recent webinar with Ghada Dimashk on Fighting Erasure and her work during the Israel/Gaza crisis is a key example of our efforts to this end. We are currently in the process of plan- ning a webinar for later this year, which will be of great interest. In order to find out further details when they’re released be sure to follow us via the aforemen- tioned channels. One of our members is also in the process of publishing a book, which we will again give further details (and possibly talks) on closer to the publi- cation date.

If you’re interested in joining CDEG, we’d be incredibly happy to have you! IP
