Could you be a Green Library Hub?
THE first three Green Library Hubs in a CILIP-led project, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, launched in September and got a chance to showcase their work in Green Libraries Week in October.
THE three-year £1.2m project, which is being deliv- ered in partnership with the British Library, Julie’s Bicycle and CAG Consultants, will start a selection process for its second cohort of three libraries in April 2026 with a view to them launching as Hubs in September 2026.
A third cohort will be selected for the programme in year three, also through an open call for expressions of interest. The first cohort of Library Hubs are: Pancras Square Library,
London Borough of Camden, Blackburn with Darwen Librar- ies and Guildford Library, Surrey County Council.

funding helps libraries to build capacity and deliver a frame- work of activities locally. The programme is flexible and encourages innovation. For example the British Library will deliver varied and engaging workshops for the public, working in close partnership with Camden libraries, and also support local organisations in run- ning climate-focused projects.
What is a Green Library Hub? Each Hub will be rooted in its local library, offering welcoming spaces that inspire community awareness and nurture grass- roots climate action. The project allows the Hubs to expand their green activities and reach more people, particularly those in disadvantaged communities, but also strengthen vital partnerships. Having a dedicated space in libraries can play an important
