Activities delivered through the Green Library Hubs build on the success of the wider Green Libraries campaign. Learning and resources from this project will be shared to inspire even more climate action and celebrate the vital role libraries play at the heart of their communities. – Rabeea Arif
Support Libraries taking part will receive training from environmental charity Julie’s Bicycle to give staff more skills on how to have conversations with the communities and how to stay focused on smaller practical changes that are relevant to their local communities. Another partner, CAG Consultants, is an evaluation expert that
has worked with other projects funded by The National Lottery Community Fund that will be supporting Hubs to measure impact and collect evidence. A monitoring and evaluation framework will be a legacy of the project and make it easier to share best practice and lessons learned share among communities and libraries.
Each library will deliver activities rooted in their local com- munity and will:
l Provide a friendly, accessible space for environmental learning and events;
l bring the climate crisis closer to home through local stories and engagement;
l strengthen partnerships with local groups, schools and climate organisations;
l equip library staff with the tools and confidence to support environmental literacy and community action.

role in teaching people that the way they live has a direct impact on their local environments and the small changes they make lead to huge benefits for themselves, their friends and neigh- bours, and the planet. The first cohort of Green Library Hubs included these themes in their Green Libraries Week activities. Camden Libraries hosted hands-on workshops with residents including Visible Mending, Eco Bird Feeders and Leaf Printing. Blackburn with Darwen Libraries ran a lively community activity day attended by more than 180 people, complete with activities ranging from book-folding events to Beach Guardian plastic pollution work- shops, and a puppet show. Meanwhile events in Guildford Library and across Surrey highlighted their Library of Things, as well as biodegradable library cards and a seed bank, alongside drop-in sessions with local environmental charities offering energy advice and recy- cling guidance, nature-themed story times, wildlife trails and book displays.
