CILIP’s new Vice President confirmed NEWS

NEW CILIP Vice President Carryl Allardice is Head of Profession for Knowledge and Information Manage- ment at the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), where she has been chief librarian for almost 20 years. Her role also sees her lead on Information and Knowledge Management in sup- port of 17,000 staff who work in the FCDO’s global network of 281 offices around the world. As well as her current Government position, Carryl has board experience across sectors, including academic, national and govern- ment libraries as well as roles in library supply, legal deposit, and as a lecturer in library and information science. Carryl will take on the role of CILIP Vice President in 2025, before assuming the President role the following year. She will use her time on CILIP’s Presidential Team

to advocate for professional development and standards, saying: “I welcome the hon- our of being able to give back to the library and information professional community as Vice President and then President of CILIP, having enjoyed the privilege of working as a librarian and information professional. “My goal is to inspire the community through my advocacy of the profession and to address vital issues that matter to our members. I will use my new role over the next two years to champion CILIP’s Pro- fessional Registration work, highlighting the importance of library and knowledge professionals investing in their skills, as well as demonstrating their professional credentials through certification, charter- ship, fellowship and revalidation. I will also seek to influence others on the impor- tance of ethical standards to uphold our international professional standing.” CILIP Chief Executive Louis Coiffait-Gunn

yellow candidates Alison Brumwell and Alison Wheeler, as he welcomed Carryl to the Presidential Team. He said: “It’s fantastic that three such strong candidates put their names forward to join the CILIP Presidential Team this year, and that over 700 members cast their votes. The Vice President and President are key spokespeople for CILIP to members, to the sector, and far beyond. “We’re delighted that Carryl Allardice has been elected as she brings extensive cross-sector experience as a hands-on librarian and now in her senior role as Head of Profession at the Foreign, Com- monwealth and Development Office. We’re all looking forward to working with her.” Current Vice President Sue Lacey Bryant

steps up to the role of President in 2025 (you can find out more about Sue on page 14), and read current President Sue Williamson’s final column on page 12. She will be joining Janet Peden on CILIP’s Board in 2025.
