Billions of people have taken part in elections, ushering new leaders into the corridors of power and conferring a renewed commitment to others. The results of those elections will have far reaching ramifications, and in the UK a new Labour Gov- ernment has set about shaping its own vision for the future. It should be no secret to our members that CILIP has been doing all it can to be part of the conversations about what direction the country is heading – each and every one of our membership has a role to play in that future. Whether it is by delivering services in the public sector, ensuring accurate knowledge and information is available for the health service, driving better decision making in the commercial world, helping deliver a new generation of talent through every level of our education system, or by underpinning world leading research.
A
The impact your work has on individuals and on the wider com- munity is immense and long-lasting, stretching well beyond those interactions with an information professional. They continue to rip- ple long into the future, which is why every knowledge, information and library service is a vital part of shaping all our futures and why CILIP seizing opportunities to be in those conversations whenever possible.
There has been an incredible amount of activity going on. CILIP Conference, Rewired, Green Libraries Week and Conference, and Members’ Fest have brought the profession together. Expert training has been delivered, covering a range of topics to help the profession develop skills and knowledge. Publications such as Rain or Shine give members the tools to help them plan for uncertain futures, while CILIP Connect helps you advocate for your service. Our Special Interest Groups have been actively supporting sectors through their own activities, and the CILIP Scotland, CILIP Cymru Wales and CILIP Ireland have been providing support to members and organisations in devolved nations. As we move into 2025 CILIP will continue to look for new oppor- tunities to deliver the best service possible for all of our members. We will be delivering solutions that build on work already done, helping to prepare the profession for the challenges ahead. Next year will also be see changes to Information Professional as we move to a quarterly print schedule, with each issue having more page dedicated to in-depth features and insights. News will be mov- ing online, helping us cover the latest stories as they happen. Find out more about the changes at
