HE festive season is upon us, and we are looking back at another busy year for Health Libraries
Group. As co-chairs of the Health Libraries Group, we want to take a moment to reflect on all the group has achieved this year and thank everyone on the committee, the CPD panel and across our membership for their continued support, help and contributions that enables our group to continue to thrive. The first part of the year was taken
up with preparations for our flagship event, the Health Libraries Group conference which this year took place at the Royal College of Physicians in London. The feedback we have received has been positive so once again a big thank you to all who attended or volunteered to help make the event such a success. We have hosted several other smaller events this year. Our new sustainability leads worked with our CPD team to run How bad are bananas. These two Carbon literacy training events were organised to align with Green Libraries Week and took place in September and October. We were proud to take part in the inaugural CILIP Members’ Fest. We organised a networking event focused on Randomised Coffee Trials. This event featured a talk from Bali Moore on how she has implemented RCTs in her NHS Trust. Following this attendees had the opportunity to take part in a randomised coffee trial as part of the session. Each attendee was paired up with another on the call allowing them to meet and chat. This was one of our most popular events this year with 100+ registrants. In November we hosted a Lunch and Learn in collaboration with CILIP. This panel event focused on CILIP Professional Registration and Revalidation. Also in November, Dr Maria Grant delivered the Bishop and LeFanu lecture on the topic of “Writing with Purpose.” This popular event sparked a great deal of discussion among registrants and with Maria herself. We are grateful

to Maria for providing such a though- provoking lecture.
Another great achievement this year has been the launch of the new Shadowing Network on HLISD. This network was soft launched at the HLG Conference in June and will be made fully available in December. The network is a way for health librarians to gain experience of different roles and skills by finding participating libraries able to offer shadowing or library visits. We were able to support CPD by providing bursaries for attendance at three conferences over the course of the year – LILAC, the HLG Conference and the CILIP conference. Attendees provided reflections on their experiences for our newsletter. Our quarterly newsletter is going from strength to strength under the guidance of our team of editors. It’s a great opportunity for members to develop their writing skills and promote their services and achievements. Or supportive editorial team are always glad to receive new content.
HLG have also continued to provided feedback to various consultation documents that have been issued over the year. These have included responses to the NHS Constitution, Patient and Public Involvement in Research, NICE Consultation and NHS Education Funding Agreement. This is a crucial part of our commitment to the continued promotion of the importance and health knowledge and library services across the broadest range of health and care services. In October, HLG Co-Chair’s Lynsey Hawker and Lesley Allen were lucky enough to attend the Libraries Change Lives by Creating Opportunities parliamentary reception. A joint event co-hosted by CILIP, Libraries Connected; Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL); Association of Senior Children’s and Education Librarians (ASCEL); School Library Association (SLA); The Reading Agency, the afternoon was an opportunity for representatives and allies from the sector to meet senior governmental advisors to demonstrate how libraries are supporting key priorities for policy makers. As we look forward to 2025 our
