Geoff said, “It never ceases to amaze me that there is no qualification to be a marine surveyor and this has been my goal ever since. I look forward to working with the IIMS CEO as we move towards implementation of a formal accreditation scheme which recognizes marine surveyors worldwide for their specialisations”.
Over 100 delegates had pre-registered to participate at the AGM, although not all made it on the day. But those who did join ensured it was easily the biggest AGM run by IIMS in its history. Outgoing President, Capt Zarir Irani, and incoming President, Geoff Waddington, both gave verbal reports. They were followed by a number of other reports given by Chairmen of the various IIMS committees. CEO, Mike Schwarz, kept the meeting running on schedule and gave a comprehensive and upbeat overview of the Institute’s activities as he presented his report.
Votes had been pre-cast prior to the meeting using a secure online voting mechanism and were as follows:
