Report Magazine edition 88 June 2019 – did you miss it?
The June Report Magazine is rather different and if you have yet to read it you are encouraged to do so, for there is a lengthy feature item on the Institute’s headquarters, Murrills House, a 500-year-old manor house in Hampshire, which the Institute is now in the process of acquiring. Aspects of the history have been documented with some fascinating original photos that are over one hundred years old.
Cargo is very much in the spotlight in this edition. There are features on the carriage of soya beans, the loading of steel coils and securing containers.
Cdr Balakrishnan G Nair has authored a most interesting article that he
is keen to share with IIMS members about a recent job on a pipelaying project where he was acting as marine warranty surveyor that went wrong sending the whole operation into a tizzy.
Also worthy of a read is an article entitled ‘The Human Side’ which looks at what goes awry when disaster strikes and how humans, the most unpredictable of things, decide to act as the disaster unfolds.
Carey Golesworthy is the ‘star’ of A Day in the Life of. Unknown to many members, Carey is a naval architect and has been a cornerstone of the Education Committee for many years. Moreover, he has authored, marked and assessed a number of the IIMS modules that form the award-winning Professional Qualifications programme. At the recent IIMS London Conference Dinner, Carey was awarded an Honorary membership.

John Noble formally retires from official IIMS duties as IIMS succession plans
President Zarir Irani and Capt John Noble
It is sad to inform members that Capt John Noble has announced his intention to retire from official IIMS duties with immediate effect. John, who will be known personally to many members, has given superb service over many years as a management board member and Chairman of Administration and the Education committee. He has agreed to remain on the education committee in the short term. His presence will be sorely missed and all at IIMS and our wider family wish him a long and happy retirement.
Vice President, Geoff Waddington, has agreed to take up the post of Chairman of Administration until at least the end of his two-year term as the next President. In the short term, IIMS CEO, Mike Schwarz, will chair the Education committee.
Three new members were approved to be added to the management board. This board’s decision was subsequently put to a vote and ratified by those who attended the AGM. They are Peter Broad, Deputy Vice President, who operates from South Korea, Sanjay Bhasin based in London and David Pestridge from Devon. Peter and Sanjay’s interests lie in the larger, commercial shipping sector, whilst David is a yacht and small craft surveyor.
