CEO Chat (continued)
The following week brought new challenges for the head office team as we headed to London to prepare and deliver the three-day IIMS Conference, Annual General Meeting and eCMID seminar. Dinner at 10-11 Carlton House Terrace was great too. I am grateful to MAIB CEO, Capt Andrew Moll, for speaking after dinner. And handing out three Blue Water awards and three Honorary memberships was a great pleasure. Judging by the positive feedback I have received from many of those who attended, the event was a resounding success. These events are stressful. The planning and preparation have to be meticulous. Only then can the delivery be perfect and meet expectations. My colleagues and I like putting on these opportunities for you to learn and network and do so increasingly around the world. There is a fuller review of Conference elsewhere in this news bulletin.
As you may have heard, IIMS is now deep in negotiations to purchase Murrills House from our landlord as the new permanent home for the Institute. This is an extraordinary opportunity and exciting project to be involved with. IIMS has started a crowdfunding campaign which will remain open until 31 March 2020. This gives you the opportunity to make a donation (no matter how small or large) towards the essential maintenance post purchase we would like to undertake. In return for your generosity, we will place a plaque with your name on the board room wall that will remain there in perpetuity. Donations can be made via our Just Giving page at
https://bit.ly/2VU4Qnr. Alternatively you can simply transfer your donation to us by bank transfer, but please advise us before you do if that is your chosen method. Already we have raised nearly £8k.
Please raise a glass to recognise the work of Capt John Noble (pictured left), who has formally retired from executive duties with the Institute. John has given service to the organisation over many years as a management board member and Chairman of Administration and of the Education committee. Good luck John.
I am travelling again soon and hope to meet as many members (and others) as possible in Brisbane (1-2 August) and in Singapore (7-8 August) either in person or online! We have more great speakers who are preparing to share their knowledge with you. See inside this news bulletin for further details of both events.
Survey well.
