Two bulk carriers collide at Tarragona port
Heavy damage has been caused as a result of two bulk carriers colliding in the Spanish port of Tarragona. The 75,500 dwt Elena Ve owned by Greece’s Golden Union struck moored Polsteam’s 82,100 dwt Karpaty while proceeding to berth with tugs’ assistance. The 2013-built Polish vessel sustained significant damage to the port side and the bow of the Greek panamax has also been severely damaged.
Landing craft type cargo ship capsized in the Java sea
The landing craft loaded with heavy machinery left Jakarta bound for Maluku. It is reported she was limping along at just 3 knots. She was reported as having capsized by locals in Karimunjawa waters. Of the 11 crew on board, 6 were rescued and 5 remain missing.
Singapore tanker fire
Fire occurred on board the tanker ROSA DINI at Jurong Port Tank Terminals, Singapore. The fire occurred in the fore part of the ship, probably in the forecastle area. No injures reported.
Crane collapsed onto bulk carrier
The bulk carrier OSPREY S was struck by a gantry crane in a floating dock accident at Cindemir Shipyard in Tuzla, Turkey. No serious injuries are reported.
Two injured after bulk carrier caught fire
According to news reports, a fire broke out onboard the Turkish-owned capesize bulk carrier Beks Force in the Sea of Japan. Two crew members of the twenty five people on board the vessel were injured.
Fire in cargo holds of freighter
The general cargo ship LOTTA arrived at Lorien France with a cargo of sunflower cake from Riga, Latvia. When the holds were opened, smoke was spotted coming from the cargo. It is understood firefighters and dockers offloaded the cargo, so that they could extinguish the fire on the pier.
Dutch freighter damages berth in Rostock
An unnamed Dutch freighter reportedly contacted the pier at Rostock port while maneuvering to berth. Some 20 meters of pier steel constructions were destroyed and fell into water. The ship was said to sustain slight aft damages.
One stowaway found dead on bulk carrier off the coast of Samsun
One of two Colombian stowaways, who had travelled on the ship Katya ATK without authorization, was found dead inside a container three miles off the coast of the northern province of Samsun.
One dead after vessel collision in Miami
The US Coast Guard has reported that a 30-foot boat collided with Fisher Island Ferry near Miami killing one person and injuring another.
Container ship disabled by fire
Fire erupted in the engine room of container ship MONTE SARMIENTO off Paranagua, Brazil. The crew activated the CO2 firefighting system, but the fire spread to containers and/or containers in aft stacks. The ship was reported to be adrift.
Eighty plus British tourists rescued after boat caught fire
According to reports, 82 British tourists were rescued from the water after their wooden boat caught fire near the Greek island of Rhodes. One of the tourists, Shaun Williams, stated they were around 30 minutes into the trip when they saw smoke coming from the boat.
Three workers killed by ship’s section collapse
A major accident occurred in a dry dock at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding resulting in three deaths. According to Caixin Media, it appears that a container ship was under assembly when a large block section mounted on the hull of the newbuild fell into the dry dock from a height of 25 meters.
