Rebecca D. Harris, Symbiosis, Invisible You. Revealing Invisible Worlds

Eden has been awarded £1.9m by the Wellcome Trust to create a permanent exhibition that reveals the invisible forces that shape the planet and ourselves. Invisible Worlds builds on the success of Invisible You – one of the most popular exhibitions that Eden has staged – which was also funded by Wellcome and used art to explore our relationship with the trillions of microbes that live inside us and on us. Invisible Worlds will open up new vistas, exploring

phenomena that are too large, too small, too fast, too slow or too complex for us to discern, and the hidden connections between them all. How does lightning help plants grow? What connects a volcanic eruption, Frankenstein and the fiery sunsets of Turner's paintings? 'Most museums, zoos and botanic gardens were set up in the Victorian period, when our understanding of

the world and our place within it was very different to what it is now,’ says Gus Grand, Eden’s Head of Policy. ‘Invisible Worlds is an exhibition for our time, and we’re delighted that this award from Wellcome will enable us to transform the Eden Project, to explore the world that we now know lies beyond our senses.' The plan includes the redevelopment of the Core,

Eden's education centre. A working laboratory will expand our offer to schools, and provide in-house demonstrations and debates about new technologies and issues. Visitors will also be able to sign up for citizen science and other research projects. The exhibits will be accompanied by a five-year live programme of activities, events, and experiments.
