Established in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Program was founded to identify and honor scholastically talented American youth while encouraging them to develop their abilities to the fullest. Since its founding, NMSC has recognized over 3.3 million students and provided approximately 432,000 scholarships worth over $1.7 billion. The competition is very rigorous; scholarship winners are chosen based on their abilities, skills, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in college and beyond.

Approximately 16,000 semi-finalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program had an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million. Sixteen high performing students proudly represented Chino Valley Unified District this academic year being named a semi-finalist, with one Ayala Bulldog being recognized as a finalist. Scholarships and awards financed by U.S. colleges and universities range from $500 to $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Congratulations Anushka Thakker of Ayala High School for being selected as a 2020 National Merit University of Southern California Scholarship recipient! Anushka joins nearly 14,000 Trojans completing their undergraduate studies at the university. Good luck!
