OPEC AND CITY OF VIENNA LAUNCH INAUGURAL VIENNA
ENERGY SCHOLAR PROGRAM OPEC Fund hosts group of young professionals at its headquarters

he OPEC Secretariat and the City of Vienna have launched the
first Vienna Energy Scholar Program (VESP), an integrated knowledge and networking platform open to students and young professionals residing in Vienna and Austria.
Welcoming the first students at
OPEC’s Vienna headquarters, Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo said: “The VESP will help bring out the viewpoints of the youth – a key pillar of the energy future – which will allow us and our member countries to learn
and gain important new perspectives.” He emphasized the importance of promoting education and raising awareness of the opportunities and challenges in the energy sector. VESP seeks to further develop the mutual understanding between the OPEC Secretariat, its member countries and Austrian and European citizens participating in the program. It also aims at improving participants’ knowledge of the most relevant aspects of energy policy and the energy industry. The students participated in
discussions about OPEC’s member countries' short- and long-term energy perspectives and policies and international cooperation, among other topics. The group also engaged in conversations about Vienna’s management of its natural resources and its reputation as a “climate- friendly city”.
As part of the VESP launch, the OPEC Fund hosted the students for an afternoon. Following a presentation of the Fund's activities related to energy sustainability, energy poverty and the SDGs, they also enjoyed an interactive installation
