Continued from Pg3 Telestream advocates provideo standards
Telestream will spotlight new developments in high-end streaming solutions. These include enhancements to its Wirecast live streaming pro- duction software, Lightspeed Live Stream enterprise-class encoding, streaming, and dis- tribution system, Lightspeed Live Capture enterprise-class capture system, and iQ end- to-end monitoring solutions which, altogether, enable Te- lestream customers to stream any content to any audience, at any level of resolution, with assurance that it is meeting the highest quality standards. this year Telestream
acquired IneoQuest, the global leader in video quality moni- toring and analytics solutions for content distribution across managed and unmanaged net- works. At ISE, Telestream will demonstrate how the Ineo- Quest iQ product line extends high-quality Telestream media production and distribution from the point of content cre- ation right up to the point of consumption on traditional and
The Scottish Whisky Ex- perience in Edinburgh city centre is one of the Scottish capital’s most renowned at- tractions, and has been for some time. As an attraction that welcomes close to half a million visitors through the doors each year, it’s vital that the tour offers the qual- ity and high-class interactive experience that befits such a popular destination. Unfortunately, in recent years the tour was failing to do this, in part due to techni- cal issues with the audio-vi- sual equipment that was helping project the movies and images involved in the experience. The AV equip- ment was beginning to de- teriorate, in part due to the huge demands being placed on the equipment, and in part due to limited access to the projectors making vital maintenance extremely dif- ficult.
In order to solve these is- sues, SWE turned to Epson. The audio-visual solutions provider immediately identi- fied the issue, and has now resolved the issues. It has provided SWE with several of its latest projectors, includ-
mobile devices. “Today, Telestream is en- abling users to take content from the broadest range of sources – from mobile devices to multi-camera productions and real-time feeds – to pro- duce and deliver digital video content easily and cost-effec- tively with assurance that it meets the quality standards au- diences expect on every viewing platform,” stated Puopolo. A key motivation for Te- lestream’s attendance at ISE 2018 is the opportunity to meet new system integrators that op- erate in these AV markets: “We recognize the benefit for customers in having a single point of contact,” commented George Boath, Director of Chan- nel
Marketing at Telestream. “Responding to this market need, Telestream is eager to partner with streaming-orient- ed system
integrators world-
wide, and we are keen to meet with companies whose skills, knowledge and experience will complement the resources Te- lestream can offer.”
ing the EB-L1100 and the ultra short-throw ELPLX01.
The solutions have made a huge difference to the quality of the projections and general imagery of the experience, and the SWE has noticed a defi- nite upturn in customer satis- faction, as well as bottom-line revenue.
As a five-star attraction that describes itself as being “on a mission to make the world fall in love with Scotch whisky”, it is vital for the Scotch Whisky Experience (SWE) to delight and inspire customers in equal measure.
Sitting at the top of Edin- burgh’s Royal Mile, the Scotch Whisky Experience first opened to the public in 1988 after 19 individual Scotch whisky companies came together and jointly invested money towards showcasing the delights of the industry to local and interna- tional visitors. Nearly 30 years later, the Experience represents 90% of the Scotch whisky in- dustry and welcomes around 400,000 visitors through its door each year, 80% of whom are international.
Due to the interactive nature of the exhibition and its posi- tion as a leading Edinburgh at-

traction for whisky enthusiasts, it’s vital that visitors are given the best experience possible. That’s where Epson’s indus- try-leading projector technolo- gy comes into play. Tours at SWE include a stun- ning 180° film with a panora- ma bird’s eye tour of Scotland’s five whisky-making regions. Visitors are then introduced to the art of blending in a recre- ated 19th century Blender’s Sample Room. Previously, the same video was delivered al- ternately in two separate rooms from projectors mounted be- hind the rear wall of the room. Access to the projectors was extremely limited, making it difficult for maintenance to be carried out.
Image quality was also start- ing to deteriorate, due to a combination of using standard definition and the demanding workloads being put on the projectors.
“From a technical point of
view, the systems did not de- liver the same level of quality as other areas of The Scotch Whisky Experience and were top of the list for our annual investment programme,” said Douglas Bolton, The Scotch Whisky Experience’s AV consul-
tant. “We knew that the infor- mation imparted could be de- livered in a more engaging and theatrical manner to the high- est visual standard. We wanted to make sure that we lived up to our visitors ever increasing expectations. SWE’s operation makes exten- sive use of technology, and with the new tour development and its experienced in-house tech- nical team recognised that an upgrade was needed in order to refresh the visitor experience and ensure that it was the best that it could be. After a rigorous hardware assessment process, Epson’s EB-L1100Ulaser pro- jector was selected, with two different lenses chosen to ca- ter for slightly different display needs. Within the Sense of Scotland room, short-throw ELPLU03 lenses were chosen to cater for large-scale, high-definition images. Five of Epson’s laser projectors were edge-blended onto a curved projection screen 12.5m in width and 2.2m high to ensure the smallest pixel size possible and fully immerse viewers in the image. In the Blender’s Sample Room, ultra short-throw ELP- LX01 lenses were selected for
both the main screen projector and a rear projector that casts a life-size video animation of a vault door through which visi- tors walk after the presentation to enter into The World’s Larg- est Collection of Scotch Whisky 3LCD image technology, a high 24/7 rating, solid-state illumination, edge-blending, portrait projection, option- al lenses and RS232 control all combine in a professional grade projector to provide the best experience possible. From a visual point of view, the image quality and bright- ness are greatly improved com- pared to the previous projectors and now provides immaculate images that visitors can be fully immersed in.
After switching to Epson laser projectors, customer satisfac- tion levels have improved due to the superior image quality, whilst The Scotch Whisky Ex- perience has enjoyed increased flexibility in the types of con- tent it is able to show, as well as better access to the projec- tors themselves. “The new presentations have been very well received by pay- ing visitors and the quality of the on-screen images plays a major part in this,” said Doug-
las Bolton. “In particular, ‘A Sense of Scotland’ could only impress viewers to the extent it does through the use of the best technical solutions avail- able to us. Lower resolution and duller images with lack- lustre colours would not have delivered the high-quality results that visitors are now applauding. “Epson’s projectors are en- hancing the visitor experi- ence and contributing to the high-quality experience which in turn encourages great visi- tor feedback, reviews and rec- ommendations.” Adding to this the reduc- tion in maintenance costs and the near-elimination of system downtime, which can all too easily spoil the visitors’ experience and result in lost revenue, the win-win situa- tion for The Scotch Whisky Experience and its customers becomes clear.
Maroon 5 relies on Avid for collaboration Avid announced that Gram-
my Award-winning pop rock group Maroon 5 relied on the industry-standard digital audio workstation Pro Tools and its cloud collaboration technology to create their highly anticipat- ed sixth studio album. Red Pill Blues. Powered by MediaCen- tral, the industry’s most open, tightly integrated and efficient platform designed for media,
Avid Cloud Collaboration for Pro Tools gave the band and their engineer, Noah Passovoy, the creative capabilities to collab- orate remotely and create the new release. The schedules and commit- ments of the band and other creative contributors made re- cording Red Pill Blues together in the same room at the same time virtually impossible. While
the studio was based in Los An- geles, band members and their collaborators were in different locations around the world. Passovoy, an acclaimed music producer, sound engineer and seasoned Pro Tools user, har- nessed the power of Avid Cloud Collaboration for Pro Tools to record with band members no matter where they were, and at any time. The entire team col- laborated easily and efficiently to record, edit and share tracks in real time.
“The speed with which you’re able to send things around with Pro Tools makes a more organ- ic way to create songs,” said Passovoy. “Multiple producers, writers and artists can’t always be in the same city at the same time. Avid’s cloud collaboration technology has allowed this to happen. Without it, we couldn’t have done it.” In
addition to collaboration
capabilities and sophisticat- ed music creation and editing functions, Pro Tools’ speed and efficiency were critical in allowing Passovoy to focus on
the creative process. Part of Avid’s comprehensive tools and workflow solutions to create, distribute and optimize media, Pro Tools is the leading choice of music creators everywhere, from audio mixers and engi- neers to award-winning musi- cians and producers. “Avid Cloud Collaboration en- ables everyone—from up-and- coming artists to the biggest award-winning, best-selling bands like Maroon 5—to collab- orate together from anywhere in the world, giving them a whole new way to create music with- out limitations,” said Avid Pres- ident Jeff Rosica. “With Avid’s cloud-enabled tools and work- flow solutions, our esteemed customer and user community can work at the highest levels of creativity, whether they’re in the same room or on different continents.”
From those with a budding inter- est in whisky, from novices to Scotch whisky enthusiasts, this wonder of the whisky world will keep customers coming back for more.
