Stapeley Grange is the former home of Mrs Cynthia Zur Nedden, a well-known local landowner who devoted her life to caring for sick animals and strays. Cynthia was famous for feeding local wild foxes,
squirrels and garden birds. On her death in 1990 Stapeley Grange, which included 12 acres of land, was bequeathed to the RSPCA to ‘establish an animal home and refuge with a clinic’. Since its inception in 1993 and subsequent
opening on 14 October 1994, Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre and Cattery has grown exponentially and has taken in over 130,000 wild, domestic and exotic animals over the 25 years. It could be said that the centre has become a victim of its own success, now having to deal with far more animals than previously. In 2018 Stapeley received almost 7000 wild, domestic and exotic animals, that came from all over the country.
