“We currently offer the largest free diabetes prevention exercise program in Los Angeles: AMPED (America Moves to Prevent/Evitar Diabetes),” Loy said. “Participants can come and exercise for one hour, three times per week, which exceeds the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) minimum physical activity guidelines, and then attend our AMPED program. which is a modification of the National Diabetes Prevention Program from the CDC. Most diabetes prevention programs don’t have an attached exercise program and ours is FREE.”
The 3WINS program has changed the lives of numerous people in Los Angeles County, and one of its informational videos was the most popular video entry in former First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s
Move Challenge” for community organizations. “I believe the key is the students’ delivery of the program,” Loy said. “The bond that forms among our students and the participants is family-like.” Come out to El Cariso Community Regional Park in Sylmar on Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for the 3WINS summit, where all local 3WINS groups will come together to exercise and you can see firsthand the impact of this incredible FREE program!
