TAPA APAC RECORDS SERIES OF CARGO THEFTS INVOLVING VEHICLES AND FACILITIES IN INDONESIA IN Q1 2021
Cargo crime data in Asia Pacific recorded by TAPA’s Incident Information Service (IIS) shows a spate of thefts or attempted thefts in Indonesia in Q1 2021.
• On 1 January, two offenders broke into an agricultural service warehouse in Puruk Cahu in the Kalimantan region of the country and stole engines and other machinery, including drilling equipment, as well as metal. Police later arrested one suspect.
• On 4 January, IIS recorded one of the latest incidents involving the Theft from Moving Vehicle M.O. when two motorbikes targeted a truck on a busy highway. One of the offenders drove close to the back of the vehicle and tore a hole in the truck’s tarpaulin curtain before grabbing some of the goods inside. After being disturbed by another driver, the suspects fled, leaving the products in the middle of the road. The location of the incident, which was captured on video, was not recorded.
• On 6 January in Tanjung Bintang, South Lampung, a thief carrying a gun used deception to steal a vehicle.
• On 4 February, a violent Theft of Vehicle crime was reported in Pekalongan in Central Java, after an offender climbed a fence to a facility and threatened staff with a sharp weapon.
• On 6 February, an M.O. of Internal was recorded for goods stolen from a facility in Bandar Lampung. A security guard reportedly duplicated keys and allowed three other offenders into the building, who loaded unspecified products onto trucks and pick-up vehicles.
Three incidents were also recorded on 7 February:
• The theft of a consignment of skipjack tuna from a facility at Muara Baru Port in North Jakarta by four offenders
• Valuable items were stolen from a facility in South Pontainak
• Food & Drink products were taken after three attackers broke through the front door of a facility in Cipancuh, Indramayu.
