in a day’s shooting for an under-18 with the GWCT young shots raffle kindly sponsored by Linnell Brothers. Eight lucky winners will win a 100 bird day’s driven shooting at the GWCT’s Allerton Project Farm at Loddington, Leicestershire in October. Tickets cost £20 with numbers strictly limited to 500, with the draw taking place on Friday 28 July at the Game Fair, Hatfield House. The winners must be under 18 years old and capable of shooting a full day. They will be accompanied on the peg by a valid shotgun licence holder. A secret sloe gin recipe from Peg and Molly Baker won the Northamptonshire hip flask challenge at the Farndon Farm Shop at the end of the shooting season. This highly entertaining evening saw the best of Northamptonshire hip flask tipples pitched against each other in this annual challenge.


Glamour at Thursford spring ball Norfolk


he winning ticket for the Norfolk Big 5 Shoot Draw was drawn by Teresa Dent at the Norfolk Spring Ball in March with Robert Barnard of Marlingford, Norfolk, the lucky winner. The draw raised £62,500 in total with £50,000 for the Trust and five donations of £2,500 to be given to the charities selected by the shoot hosts. The ball was held at The Thursford Collection with a champagne reception held in the main hall with guests surrounded by the museum’s collection of steam engines, carousels and organs, with the added glamour of a Lamborghini and Bentley Bentaya, supplied by sponsors Bentley of Leicester. Local produce was the theme for a delicious supper and following an informative update from Teresa Dent,


T Somerset Admiral entertains at Taunton


he Somerset committee held its annual dinner and auction in April. Held at Taunton School, guests were treated to a fantastic three-course meal preceded by a drinks reception, and followed by a highly entertaining talk by

auctioneer Kevin Bowes stirred up the bidding, once or twice having to resort to his whistle to control the crowd. A surprise last minute auction lot topped things off helping to raise more than £24,000. A huge thank you to all of the evening’s sponsors, auction lot donors, helpers and guests.

Le Gavroche


ichel Roux Jr generously hosted the 12th annual dinner and sporting auction in March at his iconic two Michelin starred Le Gavroche restaurant. The GWCT were thrilled to present Michel Roux Jr with a Life Fellowship Award in recognition of his outstanding support. Guests enjoyed a champagne reception and mouth-watering canapés before their delectable four-course dinner accompanied by superb fine wines, kindly sourced by Sebastian Riley-Smith. Owen Paterson MP gave a small speech before the evening was concluded with the sporting auction conducted by Ted Clive. This saw some generous bidding raising an incredible £82,000.


M Sussex Thank you Rupert


ussex’s 35th shoot evening and auction was held in March, with GWCT scientist Carlos Sánchez giving a talk on partridge game management, followed by Nick Weston, founder of a foraging and cookery school that specialises in game butchery, wild cocktails and outdoor cookery. With the auctions featuring some fantastic lots, the evening raised £21,000. The evening also heralded a goodbye and thank you to Rupert Burgoyne who has been on the committee for 12 years and treasurer for eight. Thank you to sponsors RH & RW Clutton, and everyone who helps make the evening the success it is.
