Attend a Game Fair Our very own Scottish Game Fair is being held at Scone Palace between 30 June – 2 July and looks set to be another wonderful event for all the family (see page 30). We will also be at a number of other events this summer, including the Game Fair and BBC Countryfile Live.

Tell us about your curlew The UK population of breeding curlew continues to decline, but we have launched Action for Curlew to identify current curlew breeding sites and understand the reality on the ground. If you know of a nesting site, let us know at www.actionforcurlew.com (see page 24).

Attend a GWCT event Our county groups have a packed events calendar this summer including shoot walks and clay shoots in almost every county, fly-casting masterclasses, summer drinks and much more. See page 54 for all our event listings.

Farmer Cluster conference We will also be hosting the inaugural Farmer Cluster

conference with Natural England on 12 October (see page 22). Farmer Clusters have been hugely successful and by working together, farmers have been able to deliver more for wildlife on a much bigger scale.

Create a wildlife pond Farmland ponds can support a wide range of wildlife and provide an interesting feature on your land. If you’ve thought about making one, but don’t know where to start, our handy guide is on page 42.

T RSPB award RSPB medal award to Dick Potts D

ick Potts has been awarded the RSPB medal posthumously in recognition of his outstanding contribution to nature conservation. RSPB chairman Steve Ormerod, says: “We have lost a remarkable and visionary figure in Dick Potts – whose foresight inspired crucial scientific work and conservation action. His contribution to farmland wildlife science has created a legacy for birds like the grey partridge whose very presence in the UK might have been threatened if he hadn’t stepped in early, recognised they were in trouble, and identified why.”

Lasting legacy I

n April, James and Miranda Thompson- Schwab visited the Trust to discuss its work and how it intends to use the legacy kindly left by their father, James Darell Thompson- Schwab. Mr Thompson-Schwab was a keen supporter and long-standing member who loved both shooting and fishing. “Thank you for taking the time to explain some of the excellent work that the GWCT is doing”, said Mr Thompson-Schwab’s son James. His sister Miranda went on to note that, “our father appreciated the harmony between practical land use and conservation and would be so pleased that his legacy is being put to good use”. We are extremely grateful to the family for their time and support.
