SET corporate partner shines at this year’s Tes FE Awards

Many congratulations to all the winners of the Tes FE Awards, including one of the Society for Education and Training’s corporate partners, Fareham College, which won the FE College of the Year category. The college was among 17 category winners announced at the recent

awards ceremony in London. Judges said Fareham’s success rested on a series of teaching, learning and assessment measures. Assessed as outstanding overall by Ofsted in October 2017, it has committed itself to spending one per cent of turnover on staff development, and holding an annual Star Awards event to celebrate staff achievement. Nigel Duncan, Fareham’s principal and chief executive, said: “We’re thrilled to win this award. This has been an amazing few months for us. “By being engaged with SET, staff feel well supported with their

training needs and feel that they are invested in.” Among the other Tes FE Award winners was ELATT, the charitable adult and community learning provider that featured in issue 28 of inTuition. ELATT won the Contribution to the Local Community Award for its Equal Voices project supporting migrant and refugee women. Nafisah Graham-Brown (pictured left), a Member of SET who was

our cover interviewee in issue 28, said: “This award is amazing national recognition of the innovative project created by our Life Skills Tutor team in partnership with the East London Citizens Organisation, TELCO, to enable our students to build skills and confidence to advocate for themselves in order to move forward in their lives.” The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) sponsored three of the

17 awards: Best Teaching and Learning Initiative – Barking & Dagenham College; FE Leader of the Year – Lowell Williams, principal of Dudley College of Technology; Overall FE Provider of the Year – Foxes Academy. Alison Scattergood, a barbering and hairdressing tutor at East Durham College, won Teacher of the Year. See the full results at goo.gl/ZVAAcA

There have been 21 provider-led, joint practice development projects run as part of the programme with the aim of improving teaching, learning and assessment ahead of the technical education reforms. The continuing professional development (CPD) sessions will run

across England until April 2018. Sessions offer critical and practical insights for teachers, trainers and managers.
