Maryland’s Jessica Krupnick Clinches Victory in MATCH Series


by Stacey Wells T e Mid-Atlantic T oroughbred Champion- ship (MATCH) Series fi nished its fi ve month run on September 15-16. MATCH holds races at various venues, including Maryland’s Lau- rel Park. Horses and riders compete for a total purse money of $2.9 million. T is year, all fi ve 2018 division winners were based in Maryland along with the top three overall champions. Jessica Krupnick, a fi ve-year-old mare based at the Fair Hill Training Center in Elkton, secured victory with 34 points to become the overall champion for 2018. She competed in the Filly and Mare Sprint – Dirt division to win the title racing four separate times at four diff erent tracks. Jessica Krupnick is owned by Sycamore Racing V and trained by Francis “Tres” Abbott III. Hillside Equestrian Meadows’ Laki fi nished

Hale Earns Joe Kelly Award


Georganne Hale has held nearly every job within a racing offi ce in her long career in the T oroughbred racing industry. She started with the Maryland Jockey Club in 1984 and currently holds the title of Vice President of Racing Development.

Boniface Named a Living Treasure On Tuesday, September 18, J. William Boni- face of Creswell Farm was named a Harf- ord Living Treasure. Boniface bred the 1983 Preakness winner Deputed Testamony, who was born, trained and died at Boniface’s Har- ford County farm. T e Boniface family has long been involved with T oroughbred racing and Boniface was part of the trio (with Chick Lang and Jim McKay) that created what is now called the Jim McKay Maryland Million.
