Legislative Bond Awards: Te 2025 Capital Budget for Maryland passed by the General Assembly on April 8 included funding for four of our Industry Professional members through the legislative bond ini- tiatives (LBIs) program. LBI funds are awarded by the legislature to non-profit organizations for capital projects. Te LBIs awarded to our IP members are: • $750,000 for the Fair Hill Training Center in Fair Hill; • $200,000 for City Ranch, Inc. in Windsor Mill; • $150,000 for Promise Landing Farm in Brandywine; and • $100,000 for Safe Haven Equine Warriors in Sykesville.


Te Maryland International Equestrian Foundation has announced the winners of its 2024 Merrylegs Junior Rider Scholarships. Te schol- arships are geared towards diverse young equestrians who are competing at a grassroots level. Each winner will receive a credit of $500 towards the Highland Series Horse Trials, Twilight Events, Pick Your Time/ Test Dressage & Blue Ribbon Jump Round show entries, and any other schooling opportunities at Loch Moy Farm for the next year. Tis year’s winners are Emma Kwasny from Ijamsville; Cassidy Stone from Myers- ville; Madi Mood from Winchester, VA; and Betsy Laskin from Great Falls, VA.


American Horse Publications (AHP) has appointed Barrie Reightler as Interim President, an office she will hold until the next election of directors and officers. Reightler first went on the Board of Directors in 1996, and since then has served on the Executive Board and, from 2001- 2002 as President. Among Reightler’s many contributions to AHP is the AHP Annual Conference logo, which she has designed every year since 2001. She also earned the Chris Brune Spirit Award in 2006 and was inducted into the AHP Circle of Champions in 2013.


AHP has also announced that two of our IP members – the Maryland Horse Breeders Association (for the Mid-Atlantic Toroughbred), and the Humane Society of the United States – are finalists for the 2023 AHP Equine Media Awards. Te contest allows members to enter their best content from the previous year. Tis year 453 AHP members en- tered the competition and 78 of them made the final list.

bred Makeover on October 9-12 in Kentucky. Te Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) has announced that Erin Gilmore Photography will be the Official Show Photographer for the 2024 competition, which is a competition for Toroughbreds who have recently retired from racing, as well as TB broodmares, and are embarking on their second careers. Erin Gilmore is quoted in RRP’s press release saying that her team is “pas- sionate about showcasing the best moments of your competition week because we are riders as well. We know how much hard work and dedica-


tion it takes to qualify and compete at the Toroughbred Makeover, and we will create stunning memories of your achievements in Kentucky.” Erin Gilmore Photography is no stranger to high level competition.


Gilmore has covered top level equestrian sport around the world, with career highlights that range from the Olympic Games, to working with international equestrian brands and clients.


Horizon Farm Credit has opened the grant period for JumpStart,


its new and beginner farmer grant program. Each year Horizon Farm Credit awards up to 15 farmers a grant of $10,000 to “help get them started on their agricultural journey.” Farmers aged 18 or older who have two or fewer years of experience farming, or who are planning to start farming in the next two years, are eligible to apply. Te US Equestrian Federation has selected Loch Moy Farm to host the the USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships for 2024 & 2025. Te championships will run currently with the Maryland International CCI4*-S and will offer CCI1*-S, CCI2*-S, CCI3*-S divisions. Te cross country course will be designed by Ian Stark, a former British Olympian who has also designed for the Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill, the Badmin- ton CCI5* Horse Trials in England, and Te Event at Rebecca Farm CCI4*-L in Montana, just to name a few.
