Te first three months of the 2024 competition season are in the books and it is time to celebrate the accomplishments of our Maryland Sport Horse breeders and their exceptional athletes. Te horses and ponies listed won a division in a recognized competition in the first quarter of 2024. We have organized them by breed instead of discipline to showcase the diver- sity of Maryland’s sport horses. If you don’t see your winning Maryland- bred here, please send us the information at

AMERICAN WARMBLOOD Melinda Cohen of Adamstown’s five-year-old
American Warmblood gelding Carqui, by Hol- steiner stallion Windsors Qui Dandy out of Old- enburg mare Bogota (Bogota Car), won numer- ous jumper divisions at the Winter Spectacular show series in Ocala, Florida, this winter. Carqui won the 5-Year-Old Young Jumper 1.15m II divi- sion at six separate competitions this winter, start- ing January 3 and ending on March 10. Former Marylander and professional show jumper Aidan Smith-Fullerton was Carqui’s pilot for every ride.
DUTCH WARMBLOOD Also in Ocala, Lazy J Sporthorse’s (North East, MD) eight-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare LJS Lana won the Open Preliminary division at the Ocala Winter II Horse Trial on March 14. LJS Lana is by R Johnson out of Saretta (Olympic Ferro). Her last outing in Maryland was the 2023 Fair Hill International Horse Trial on April 21, where she won that event’s Open Preliminary division as well.
HANOVERIAN In Florida, Hilltop Farm’s Hanoverian stallion Louisville HTF won
the seven-year-old young horse tests at the Global Dressage Festival on March 7 and at White Fences on March. 15. He also won the USEF Fourth Level Test 3 class at the Global Dressage Festival on February 16. Louisville HTF is by Lord Leatherdale out of Unicum-D (Negro). Hill- top’s head trainer Michael Bragdell, originally from Sweden, was with Louisville HTF for each win. In Ohio, Maryland-bred Hanoverian Red Jacket was Champion Adult
Amateur Hunter 18-35 at the World Equestrian Center’s Spring For- ward show on March 6. Red Jacket is an 18-year-old gelding by Rotwing out of All Tat Jazz (XX), bred at Bascule Farm in Poolesville.
OLDENBURG Nancy Holowesko’s Oldenburg mares won numerous divisions this
winter in Florida. Nancy Holowesko breeds a string of exceptional sport horses at her Crosiadore Farm in Trappe. In Florida, Holowesko’s 11-year-old Oldenburg mare Arabesque
(Flashdance CF) was Champion 3’6 Performance Hunter at the Wel- lington Equestrian Festival (WEF) on March 17 and Champion Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 (Sec. B) on March 16. She also won the $100 Large Junior Hunter 3’6 16-17 U/S class at WEF on Feb. 13, and the $600 Performance Hunter 3’6 class on January 30. Arabesque is by Furstenball out of Solar Eclipse (Sir Donnerhal). She has an exceptional competi- tion record. In 2023 alone, she was Champion Large Junior 3’6 Hunter at the Washington International Horse Show at Showplace Arena; the National Horse Show in Kentucky; the Junior Hunter Nationals in Michigan; the Pennsylvania National in Harrisburg; and the Hampton Clas- sic in Bridgehampton, New York. Aura CF won the USEF Tird Level Test 3 (Jr- YR/AA/Open) at the World Equestrian Center Dressage show in Florida on February 14. Aura CF is by Belissimo out Aussprache (Licotus). In 2023 she won the 2 USDF 2nd Level Freestyle* AA Region 3 Championship, in Florida on Oct. 5. Yet another Holowesko Oldenburg mare, four-

year-old La Loire CF, started her showing career this winter with wins in Florida breeding shows. She won both the USDF Materiale Mare/Filly class and the Young Horse Test-of-Choice class at White Fences on March 15. In December she won the Dressage Materiale Tree Year Old Fil- lies class at the Wellington Classic Winter Show.
She is by Grand Galaxy Win T out of La Violetta (Pik Bube). High Point Hanoverians in Chestertown had two of its horses win this
winter. In the desert Southwest, Klaus Schenber’s eight-year-old Oldenburg gelding Facetime won the Tird Level Test 3 class at the Arizona Dres- sage Association’s Spring Celebration on February 3. He also won the Tird Level Test-of-Choice class at Central Arizona Champagne Dressage on January 13. Facetime is by Furst Impression out of Mona Lisa (Mon Dieu). A High Point Hanoverian Oldenburg mare, Shameless, took to the
dressage arena at Te First Dance in Louisiana on March 16. She won both the USEF Tird Level Test 1 and the USEF Tird Level Test 3. Shameless is nine years old, by Sinatra Song out of Stuckstable. Dr. Elizabeth Callahan’s six-year-old Oldenburg mare Union City was Champion Green Hunter 3’3 at the Ocala Masters on February 20. She also won the $1,000 USHJA 3’3 Green Hunter Incentive at the Ocala Winter Festival on February 13. Union City is by Ulmar Mail out of Avalon (A Fine Romance).
RHEINLAND PFALZ-SAAR Dr. Callahan also counted a Rehinland Pfalz-Saar on her list of win- ning horses. Ten-year-old mare Bonaire had an impressive win in the
