Maryland-bred Spring Season Report by Katherine O. Rizzo and Kim Egan


Te spring competition season is in full swing both here in Mary- land and across the country. Below are some results of Maryland-bred horses across various disciplines. Maryland-bred Eventers


Point Nemo (Songandaprayer x Wood Not) winning at Plantation Field with Carlin Keefe.


Olympian Doug Payne has three sport horses all bred by Marylander Didi Callahan that had stellar results at the Stable View CCIs in South Caro- lina April 7-9. Quantum Leap, a 2011 Holsteiner by Quite Capitol and out of Report to Sloopy, fin- ished third in the CCI4*S. Payne finished 17th in the CCI4*S with Ca- marillo, a 2014 German Sport Horse. Both horses are entered in the Land Rover Kentucky Tree


Day Event, (Quantum Leap in the CCI5* and Camarillo in the CCI4*) which took place after this issue went to press. See equiery.com for results! Payne’s third mount at Stable View was Quiberon, a 2015 Oldenburg by Quite Easy and out of Avalon, who finished second in the CCI3*S. In Florida, Melissa Paul rode the 2012 Toroughbred Uptown Indy to third place in the Intermediate/ Preliminary division at Rocking Horse Horse Trials on April 6-7. Te OTTB gelding was bred by David Carter and had 15 starts on the track. Uptown Indy is by Scip- ion and out of Kallie Bird. Also at Rocking Horse was Spartacus Q, a 2019 Hanoverian by Soleil and out of Laura Q. Bred by Didi Cal- lahan, Spartacus Q finished eighth in Open Modified A with owner Melanie Loschiavo. Maryland five-star rider Colleen


Rutledge rode her homebred Co- vert Rights to win the Preliminary


division at FENCE Horse Trials in North Carolina on April 15. Covert Rights is a 2006 American Sport Horse gelding by Maryland-sire Black Fox Farm Incognito (Toroughbred/Clydesdal) and out of Maryland- bred Lets Get It Right (Toroughbred). Te pair are also entered in the CCI5* in Kentucky. Maryland young rider Carlin Keefe won the Modified division at the


Plantation Field Horse Trials on April 15 riding Point Nemo. Te 2013 Toroughbred gelding is by Songandaprayer and out of Wood Not. He was bred by Dr. and Mrs. A. Leondard Pineau and is currently owned by Rumsey Keefe. In Georgia, Tessa Geven rode Ameristan to win the Open Beginner


Novice division at the Poplar Place Horse Trials on April 15. Te 2017 unraced Toroughbred mare is by Cosa Vera and out of Seeking Allie. She was bred by Lady Olivia at North Cliff, LLC.


Maryland-bred Steeplechase Winners As of press, Bogey’s


Image has won two for two in Maryland with wins at both Green Spring Valley Point- to-Point (April 2) and Elkridge-Harford Hunt Point-to-Point (April 23). Te 2017 gelding is by Imagining and out of Casablanca Lilly. He was bred by South Branch Equine and is owned by Har- vey


Goolsby, Achsah


O’Donovan and Dan- iel Colhoun. Trained by Joe Davies, Teddy Davies rode Bogey’s Image for both his recent wins. Fletched is also in the midst of a winning streak after winning both the $10,000 Maiden Timber at the Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds in Unionville, PA on March 26 and the Open Timber at the Rappahon- nock Hunt Point to Point on March 4. Te 2013 gelding is by Etched out of Conowingo. He was bred by Bonita Farm, is owned by Black and Blue Stable and trained by Forrest Kelly. Elizabeth Scully was in the irons for both his wins. Mr. Fine Treads won the George E. Clement Memorial Novice

Quiberon (Quite Easy x Avalon) finished second in the CCI3*S at Stable View with rider/owner Doug Payne.


Timber at the Elkridge-Harford Point-to-Point. Te 2013 gelding is by Sightseeing out of Seven Counties. He is owned by Armata Stables, trained by Joe Davies and ridden by Teddy Davies. Mr. Fine Treads went on to finish second in the Amateur Maiden Timber at the My Lady’s Manor Races on April 15.
