bitch pack so we are a relatively small pack,” Reid explained. Five and half couple is equiva- lent to 11 hounds. T e pack currently is all Penn Marydel foxhounds except for one cross-bred. For the trials, each hunt club entered fi ve


hounds for a two-day competition. All 60 hounds are mixed together and hunted as one pack by a guest huntsman. Judges ride out on horseback and do not know what club each hound is from while judging. Hounds are judged in the following categories: hunting, trailing, full cry, endurance and marking. At the end of the fi rst day, Last Chance Hounds had the Overall Top Hound and Overall second place hound. “We had hounds that scored in the top 10 in every category as well as the number one Full Cry Hound,” Reid said. Last Chance Hounds was named Top Pack for the fi rst day based on total points from all categories. “My girls have been on fi re all season but to see them stack up so well against such great hounds from other packs is just re- ally exciting,” Reid added. Reid predicted that her older group of hounds


would not be as fresh the second day but they hunted just as well, with Last Chance Hounds


having the Over- all Top Hound for the second day. Once again, all hounds placed in the top 10 in at least one category resulting in Last Chance Hounds earning Top Pack for the second day of the trials too. Scores from both


days were tallied to overall champion- ships for the whole trials with Last Chance Hounds earning both Top Pack and Top Hound. “We’ve had a two previ- ous hounds be overall top hound before but this was our fi rst time as top pack,” Reid stated. “I’m really proud of them and feel very blessed.” In addition, all fi ve hounds fi nished in the
