After resigning from the Senate in July 2021, Peters was appointed to serve on the University System of Maryland Board of Regents and the University of Mary- land Medical System board of directors.
Andrew MacNamara Pons died on Janu-
ary 2 at the age of 70. Born in Baltimore, Pons grew up at the family’s Country Life Farm near Bel Air. He graduated from T e John Carroll School in 1971 and started working as an assis- tant for Hall-of-Fame trainer Henry S. Clark at Delaware Park. In the late 1970s, he was called back to Country Life Farm to manage the historic T oroughbred facility. He married Marva Jones in 1986 after the couple met at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky.
Howard Mitchell “Mickey” Day of Marri-
ottsville died on January 2. He was 62. Born in Frederick, Day was Vice President and General Manager for his family’s business, Farm and Home Services, which has locations in Sykes- ville, Ellicott City, Brunswick, Taneytown and Poolesville. Day graduated from Glenelg High School and earned a B.S. degree from the Col- lege of Agriculture at the University of Mary- land. Day was a 4-H member and became a Howard County 4-H All Star in his youth. He was later instrumental in starting the Howard County 4-H Beef Club as the 4-H representa- tive. Day joined the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department in 1977 and served as presi- dent of the Howard County Volunteer Fire- fi ghters Association. Day became a Howard County Fair board member in 1983 and served the fair board as president and on several com- mittees over the years.

Gov. Moore has appointed Shawn Wright to the Maryland Racing Commission. Wright is the co-chair of the D.C. offi ce of Blank Rome.
George Mahoney has been appointed the new Chair of the Maryland Racing Commission.
Fran Burns has been elected to the Maryland State Fair & Agricultural Society as board president. Her great grandfather held this position from 1923 to 1936.
