P

rincess Grace Kelly of Monaco frequented this remarkable estate througout the 1980s,

on visits to the Roumilly family, who she is believed to have befriended at one of their extravagant parties. She gifted several statues to the property, two of which remain. Les Moulins du Villars, near

the village of Gilette, was built in 1970 on the site of a 14th- century olive mill, by Count Jean Fernand Joseph Gouin de Roumilly. On the banks of the

River Latti which once powered the mills’ wheels, the estate was created using the local natural rock. It is also home to the Villars Spring, said to have curative powers, and which Grace Kelly found soothing. The property changed hands

in the early 1990s and the new owner spared no expense in transforming the gardens. The current owners bought Les Moulins in 2006, later completely transforming it in 2010. The seven-bedroom home is surrounded by a 600m2

estate of olive groves and fruit trees. The four-storey main building has two living rooms, a wine cellar, four bedroom suites, two guest suites with a terrace each and a cliff -side swimming pool. The estate also includes a semi-restored ruin that can be used as an events venue, as well as two further guest suites and a garage. Just a 30-minute drive

from Nice and 50 minutes from Monaco, the luxurious home is for sale at €11.5m with Sotheby’s International Realty.
