CHECKING YOUR EQUIPMENT


Prior to each flight, an equipment check is necessary. Performing accurate, routine equipment checks can make the difference during an emergency. This pre-flight equipment check should be a methodical walk-through of the aircraft, checking each piece of equipment for several things.


The BEST method for conducting an Emergency Equipment Preflight on a corporate jet is to locate the Passenger Safety Briefing Cards for that particular aircraft. They are most often located in a forward closet or in the magazine racks at the front of the aircraft.


Once you have one of the cards in hand locate the Emergency Equipment Schematic on the card and make note of all the emergency equipment onboard. Verify that the equipment is in its appointed location. If anything is missing inform the PIC immediately. Specific items to check include:


• How many Halon Fire Extinguishers are there and where are they located? • Is there a Water Fire Extinguisher onboard? • Does this aircraft have Therapeutic O2? Does it have a Portable Oxygen Bottle? • Where are the Life Vests located? Where are the Life Rafts Located.


The next step is ensure the equipment is secured to the aircraft. The check should include the T-S-O:

The last step is to determine if the equipment is operational.


Is it Operational? Ready for use Check expiration date
