Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 EV6: Pearls and Pitfalls: What I Wish I Had Known After Residency

Join your colleagues and friends for this unique opportunity to learn, grow professionally, ask questions, and network with your peers. This year’s “Pearls and Pitfalls” session aims to equip Student members and new periodontists with helpful advice as they embark on their periodontal careers. Lunch is included.


The program is comprised of two sections: One Size Does Not Fit All: Understanding Different Ways to Practice and It Doesn’t Need to Happen Overnight: Navigating Loan Repayment and Refinancing Options. Each session will include first-hand testimonials and tips from periodontists new to practice. Ample time for questions and answers will be provided.


Educational Objectives:


• Differentiate between associate, multi-specialty, and private practice.


• Realize that there is no one right path for everyone and decide what practice modality is the right fit.


• Learn the basic tenants of loan repayment and refinancing and understand various loan repayment and refinancing options.


• Gain insight into how to establish a path to repayment.


Continuing education (CE) credit is not designated for this session.

IW3B: Insurance Workshop: Periodontal Coding Insurance Primer 201 1–4 p.m. Program Track: Practice Development and Management Speakers: Pam Throw (AAP staff) and Linda Vidone


Cost: $250 per person (or Insurance Primer 101 and 201 together for $450); limited attendance; coffee break included.


The content in this session is intended for office staff who have a fundamental understanding of coding for periodontal procedures. This session will review explanation of benefits of claims and why – or why not – a claim may have been paid. Participants will receive a handout covering information to be covered in the presentation.


Educational Objectives:


• Better understand what is needed to effectively submit to a dental insurance carrier.


• Comprehend the guidelines implemented by insurance plans for reimbursement.


• Troubleshoot administrative challenges related to reimbursement.


• Review the 2018 ADA CDT code updates.
