hen I first heard Cultivating Purpose was the theme for this issue of FLOURISH, I thought


about the many ways purpose continues to grow throughout life.


At Landis Communities, we believe purpose is not reserved for a certain age, role, or season. It can be found in service, creativity, relationships, care for others, and the simple daily rhythms of community life. It is seen in a resident offering encouragement to a neighbor, a team member taking time to listen, or a volunteer sharing their gifts in a meaningful way.


This issue of FLOURISH shares many examples of purpose being lived out across Landis


Communities. You will read about Joe DiGarbo and Anne Wallace-DiGarbo, whose work with the Alternatives to Violence Project has helped build peace around the world. You will meet Basil Scrivens, whose creativity and performing continue to bring meaning to his life. You will read about Bill Cluley, whose years of service have taken him from the pastorate to international blindness outreach and now to daily acts of care at Landis Place on King.


I also want to take a moment to say thank you to Beth Trout, Vice President of Advancement & Communications, who has retired after more than twelve years of service. Beth helped us see ourselves more clearly, bringing focus to our mission and strategic direction in ways that continue to guide us. She was part of shaping many of the spaces that define our campuses today, including Landis Place on King, and at Landis Homes, the Calvin G. and Janet C. High Learning and Wellness Center, the Gardens and Meadows neighborhoods, and the upcoming B.A.R.N. She also led capital campaigns that made many of these spaces possible through the generosity of faithful donors. As our Communications team was formed and we rebranded all parts of the organization, Beth imagined a publication that could tell the stories of the incredible people across Landis Communities. FLOURISH became a way for our partners and friends to understand that Landis Communities is one organization with many expressions of care, community, and purpose. We are deeply grateful for the vision, leadership, and dedication Beth has shared.


May the stories in this issue remind us that purpose is something we continue to cultivate together.
