Polypipe Building Services commended for sustainability work at IP&E Awards

Polypipe Building Services has been highly commended in the Sustainable Innovation category at the Industrial Plant & Equipment Awards for initiatives including a successful recycling initiative with Wolseley Pipe Centre.

In making the commendation, the IP&E awards recognised the commitment that Polypipe Building Services has made to sustainability across a range of projects involving its operations, its products, and its industry partners. These have helped to cut carbon emissions in line with a wider Genuit Group commitment to the Science-Based Targets Initiative.

With sustainability at the core of the company’s strategy, the judges looked at several different initiatives. This included the investment in upgrading manufacturing equipment so that the popular Terrain PVC-u range can be

produced with up to 65% recycled materials.

They also considered the development of their Polypipe Advantage Service which offers contractors a made-to-measure prefabricated drainage or water supply system which minimises waste, and their initiatives to establish a fully circular manufacturing process. This included their successful waste recycling initiative run with specialist trade distributor Wolseley Pipe Centre, which led Polypipe Building Services to employ dedicated recycling staff to process client product waste which are then reused or recycled into product. This pilot of this scheme proved so successful that it has now been rolled out across 11 Wolseley Pipe Centre branches within the UK.

Andy Cullum, UK managing director at Polypipe Building Services explains: “We’re

delighted to have been commended by the IP&E Awards, as it’s wonderful recognition of how seriously we take our work in making the built environment more sustainable.

“As part of this we have made significant investments – such as upgrading our production capability to produce our Terrain PVC-u pipe with more recycled material. But the commitment I have seen from every member of our team has been the key factor – they have shown fantastic commitment, and I am sure they will continue to do so as we set even more ambitious sustainability objectives.

Now in its 31st year the IP&E Awards showcase industrial excellence among UK businesses within the industrial sector and the winners were announced in an online ceremony on Wednesday October 26th.
