Guild Insurance Rates Held Down Thanks To Growing Membership

Recent budget increases in the rate of Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) from 6% to 10% has meant the cost of providing insurance to the professional beauty market has gone up. But The Guild have announced that they will keep membership and insurance rates unchanged in 2016 thanks to a large increase in Guild membership numbers.

Guild Director Paul Archer said, “We have seen a 15% rise in Guild membership over the first quarter of 2016. There are now over 9,000 Guild members which makes The Guild the biggest professional beauty trade body in the UK. The growth in membership has allowed us to absorb the recent increases in insurance taxes without having to pass them on to our members. Other trade bodies which offer fewer membership services than The Guild have been forced to increase their membership and insurance prices because of the rise in IPT. The result is that the Guild attracts even more new members.”

The large growth in Guild Membership has seen a big increase in the number of suppliers wanting to advertise in Guild Gazette magazine. The Guild’s Marketing Manager, Rebecca Archer, said, “Guild members represent the cream of the professional beauty industry as they are qualified and insured.

Most Guild members run their own salon businesses or are self-employed. This means that they are responsible for the buying decisions the business makes, and these are exactly the people the advertisers want to reach. The quality of Guild members plus the growth in numbers is what makes advertising in Guild Gazette and on the Beautyguild.com website so attractive.

You can see how the magazine has grown over the last year by comparing the 108 pages in this issue with the 68 pages in the May/June issue last year.”

The Guild’s objectives for the year ahead is to continue to provide our members with the best package of insurance services and membership benefits. Guild Director Paul Archer said, “The growth in membership numbers and advertising income from Guild Gazette has allowed us to make further investments in our IT structures which improve communications with members whilst at the same time reducing administration and postage costs. We are also passionate about improving standards of training and education in the industry which we support and promote through the Guild Awards of Excellence and our Genuine Beauty Campaign.”
