Join Us Greetings from NCTE!
The pages before you offer many exciting titles to explore. Growing our support for early career educators, we are pleased to announce a new mini-book series titled How Do I? We launch with a focus on working with elementary-age writers. NCTE has long understood that reading and writing are connected from the earliest of experiences, and we are thrilled to bring to the fore practical, expert guidance by award-winning elementary educator Ann Marie Corgill.
Discover an ongoing and thorough emphasis on student expression and abundant promise when we confer with students and enjoy the language arts together. Stella Villalba’s new book, Tell Me More: Conferring with Artists, Writers, and Storytellers, invites us to experience her dynamic practices ready for you to adopt.
We’ve also been hard at work on two vital books documenting the field, Critical English Education and the upcoming Key Works in English Education (preorder your copy via the QR code on page 3). Ernest Morrell, NCTE Past President and Director of the NCTE Squire Office on Policy Research, conceived these projects and worked on them until his untimely passing this February. It is our honor to fulfill a commitment to him to bring these important books to the world and actively stimulate conversation around them.
We emphasize the spirited commitment of English language arts professionals to reach all students in effective, contemporary, and creative ways that support reading, writing, and critical thinking. The NCTE community supports creators of today and tomorrow. Let us hear what you are eager to share with the ELA community through NCTE. We are actively seeking future titles for the How Do I? series and other avenues to support ELA professionals across their careers. Drop a line at

Sincerely, Emily Kirkpatrick, NCTE Executive Director

NCTE is a community of language arts teaching professionals creating vital support, inspiration, and opportunity. We’ve stood the test of time since 1911 and nurture this mission: to promote the development of literacy, the use of language to construct personal and public worlds and to achieve full participation in society, through the learning and teaching of English and the related arts and sciences of language.
Supporting each other as a community of teachers, educators, readers, writers, and thinkers, we uplift each other, our students, and our profession.
