Arkansas Bicycle and
Pedestrian Plan The Arkansas Bicycle and Pedestrian
Transportation Plan has been updated in 2017 to promote the benefits of cycling and pedestrian activities and how trans- portation policies can encourage them. A key theme in the plan is econom- ic benefits. The plan states that “Studies and stories from around the country demonstrate that good planning and smart investments in bicycling and walking not only provide citizens improved mobility, travel options, and personal health and fitness, but also
deliver quantifiable economic benefits at the local, regional, and statewide lev- els. Robust bicycling networks and safe walking environments have the poten- tial to generate millions of dollars in state and local economic benefits for Arkansas, including contributions to tax revenue.”
Another theme is Reviving .
Neighborhoods. The plan asserts that “Bicycling and walking improvements can help transform urban neighbor- hoods and small towns, whether along a specific corridor or in an entire down- town business district.”
