- nual Calendar. Nothing prepares a Board and management better for the upcoming year than a well thought out and detailed annual calendar. This is really a must annual calendar should include Board and committee meetings, annual meeting preparation, when you send out requests for proposals for projects and contracts, when proposals will be reviewed and ap- proved and work performed, and other predictable annual events. The perfect annual calendar will take the guess work out of what you’ll discuss at each Board meeting, what management is working on throughout the year, and assist in commu- nication and setting clear expectations for the Board, management, service provid- ers, and community members.

Board goal setting is like mixing unlikely ingredients and creating something great. - eryone who serves on a Board has the same approach or even agenda, most folks have the same goal - to effect change in their community. One of the most success- ful and effective ways to get and keep all Board members moving in the same direc- tion is to identify goals for the upcoming year. The goal setting process can be time- consuming, but it’s well worth it as you begin with identifying individual priorities (everyone adds their own dash of flavor) and end with a collaborative and short list of obtainable, realistic goals that move the community forward. Part of this recipe for success includes visiting the progress to- ward your goals at every meeting and cel- ebrating when goals are met.
One of the best tips I have for success in - volves several ingredients and if you simply follow the recipe, you’ll take a lot of guess work out of how things will turn out.
Oh, and don’t be shy with the salt.
All my best, Community Resources
