MACH OVERVIEW

23

An eye on welding A number of new products and technologies were launched and showcased at the MACH exhibition. TheAWD successfully hosted its members at the exhibition in its ownWeldingWorld Village. This was situated in Hall 4 of the NEC, Birmingham. It also held an AGM, AWD awards ceremony and AWD reception at the exhibition. Members at the events took advantage of the opportunity to network, celebrate welding achievements and new products as well as to discuss the latest industry and technology developments. For further details of AWD’s award winners, please see page 16. The Personal Safety and Abrasive Systems divisions of

AWD member 3M joined forces at MACH. The Abrasive Systems Division of 3M presented products that have never before been seen at MACH, including its advanced Cubitron II Range which utilises a precision shaped ceramic abrasive technology, as well as Scotch-Brite non-woven abrasives. These were accompanied by a broad range of Speedglas welding helmets and the recently- launched next generation Adflo powered air respirator from the 3M Personal Safety Division. BOC showcased its latest developments in component cleaning technology. Centre stage was the new fully automated CO2 CRYOCLEAN®

component surfaces before painting or coating. See product review on page 14 for further details AWD member BH Tungsten Grinders displayed its latest

range of Siegmund welding and clamping tables, from its Professional Extreme range, at MACH 2014. This new range of tables is made from a unique grade of hardened tool steel which is then plasma nitrided to give a surface hardness of 700 Vickers. The tables are therefore even more resistant to scratches, weld spatter, impact damage and corrosion. The large range offers a robust and versatile solution to clamping and fixturing of welded articles and is suitable for batch production, one-offs and prototyping. “Our machines created a lot of interest from end users

and distributors alike at MACH,” AWD member, Butters UK, toldWeldingWorld. “Also of interest was the interchangeable ability of our feed units across the range, including the welder generator. Our robotic torches and range of MIG torches also received a good response.” Carver & Co, another AWD member that exhibited in

the Welding World Village, also had positive comments on its presence at MACH. “Given that it is many years since we exhibited, we

weren’t sure what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised at both the number and quality of visitors.

So many people came on to the stand to compliment our clamps, particularly their strength and durability. We also came away from MACH with several serious inquiries for our mobile fume extractor and Demmeler modular welding equipment. Early indications are that we will definitely exhibit at MACH 2016,” said Carver Clamps product manager, Siobhan Collins. AWD member, JEI Solutions (manufacturer of the Magbeast range of portable magnetic drilling machines and cutting tools), used the event to launch its new Steelbeast range of plate bevelling machines, designed to produce weld preps on steel before joining. “We certainly felt a more upbeat vibe than two years ago.

We received many product enquiries, resulting in potential orders which are being followed up nationally via site visit demonstrations,” said managing director, David McFadden. “It was also great to catch up with a lot of our old friends and customers, in raising awareness of our product range and the bespoke services we offer our clients. “JEI Solutions has been a member of the AWD for

15 years and events such as the Welding World Village offer very worthwhile exposure for the company. We look forward to returning in two years’ time.” LA-CO (Brian Hyde booth) made an impression in

theWeldingWorld Village at MACH 2014, as it used the exhibition to officially re-launch the Tempil brand to the UK market. Acquired by LA-CO Industries last year, Tempil is perhaps

best known for its best-selling TempilStick temperature indicators and these were a highlight of MACH 2014. Also being showcased in the Welding Village from the Tempil brand were the brand’s Tempilabel and Thermax temperature-indicating labels designed to deliver consistent and accurate temperature readings in a variety of applications and environments. “The LA-CO stand at MACH 2014 also featured the latest markers from Markal. The brand offers a wide range
