THEWELD OF PARLIAMENT
Political and business observations from Stephen McPartland, UK Member of Parliament for Stevenage and advisor to the AWD Board
THE WELDING WORLD VILLAGE at MACH 2014 was an amazing showcase of the entrepreneurial talent that we have here in the British welding industry. I was delighted to meet so many of our AWD members as I looked
around the exhibition and really enjoyed listening to their feedback. Many members told me it was one of the best exhibitions that they had attended in many years. There was a real buzz in the atmosphere as people were making sales and new connections. I was also given the opportunity to speak at the AWD conference and
enjoyed the energy of all the members that I met afterwards. It was a great experience for me – listening to the plans that a number of members have for the future was inspiring. From a personal point of view, I am always pleased to see how innovative our welding industry is here in the UK. The products on display at MACH 2014 once again made me realise the potential of our companies. We really do need to export more, as it is clear that we are leading the world when it comes to innovative welding products. I would also like to take a moment to thank you all for your membership of the AWD and thank the team who made the Welding World Village the showcase of MACH 2014. It was an incredible advertisement for everything that is great about the British welding industry and it would not have been possible without everyone playing such an important part. You make me proud to be involved with the AWD and I firmly believe that the British welding industry is the best in the world. ■
