4. Sculpture by the Lakes – Pallington Lakes, Dorset
Sculpture by the Lakes is situated in 26 acres of tranquil countryside at Pallington Lakes, in Dorset. Here you can enjoy the stunning work of resident sculptor, Simon Gudgeon (
simongudgeon.com). Simon is considered one of Britain’s fi nest
contemporary sculptors and his work takes inspiration from nature and its impact on the world around us. “Most sculptures don’t start out as a conscious thought, with all the aspects of form and meaning carefully considered,” explains Mr Gudgeon. “What happens is that an idea enters my head – be it a shape, a movement or an emotion – and I simply want to convey it. I must convey it!” Away from the sculpture park, Simon
will be exhibiting on Main Avenue at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (23rd-27th May) where, for the last two years, his sculpture gardens have won the highest accolade possible, the Five Star Tradestand Award.
