Casa Cayuco Eco-Adventure Lodge ISLA BASTIMENTOS, PANAMA
Where the jungle meets the sea, you’ll find a corner of Panama where dugout canoes, called cayucos, glide across turquoise shallows and howler monkeys echo through the jungle canopy. Casa Cayuco Eco-Adventure Lodge is a remote, off- grid sanctuary offering travellers an immersive, low-impact experience in one of Central America’s most biodiverse marine environments. Surrounded by mangroves, coral reefs and Indigenous communities, the lodge is a gateway to the true soul of the Bocas del Toro archipelago. Eight rooms host up to 38 guests in beachfront
bungalows, jungle cabins, a treetop cabaña and a tropical villa. Whether you’re exploring on your own, as a couple or with family and friends, this charming hideaway offers a personal touch that makes every guest feel special. Days at Casa Cayuco are filled with small-group adventures led by expert local guides. Marine excursions include exploring white-sand beaches and vibrant reefs teeming with tropical fish, crabs, octopuses and healthy coral in every colour imaginable. On land, jungle trails reveal sloths, capuchin monkeys and abundant
birdlife. Families often visit Monkey Island to meet rescued howler and squirrel monkeys, while food- lovers will enjoy exploring a botanical cacao farm to learn about chocolate-making . Sustainability is central to daily life at the lodge.
Solar arrays generate clean electricity, rainwater is harvested and purified for drinking, and kitchen scraps are composted. Every stay contributes to impactful community initiatives in Salt Creek, a neighbouring Ngäbe-Buglé village. These range from school construction to the Salt Creek Medical Outpost, in partnership with Floating Doctors. Dining at Casa Cayuco emphasises local organic
produce and sustainably line-caught fish, delivered daily by community fishermen. The plant-forward menu features dishes such as hibiscus-lime ceviche, Caribbean pumpkin curry, banana-leaf-grilled wahoo fish, and desserts such as mamallena (bread pudding) and maracuyá (passionfruit) custard. The culinary team accommodates all dietary needs. Three meals a day — along with afternoon snacks — ensure guests remain nourished after days filled with sea and jungle adventure.
