Action for Children Celebrating 150 years This year, the children’s charity, Action for Children, is celebrating 150 years of working tirelessly to change the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children, helping to break the patterns of disadvantage, neglect and emotional abuse. The incredible legacies left to Action for Children account for nearly 25% of fundraised income, without which Action for Children wouldn’t have the power to transform the lives of children, young people and families, now and for generations to come. Ignoring your snoring?

Don’t let your relationship pay the price H

ave you ever been kicked into the spare room because of your

snoring? If you answered yes, you’re not alone — around 12% of people admit to making their partner sleep separately in order to escape the noise*. When one spouse is sleep deprived, snoring places a major strain on a relationship. Research shows that poor sleep causes argu- ments and affects intimacy inside and outside the bedroom. It’s easy to ignore the problem, or

to keep sleeping separately. But when snoring is such an issue that you’re constantly rowing — or even consid- ering separation — you know you need to act. Dealing with snoring can bring a whole host of benefits to your relationship. As well as your part- ner’s mood improving through a good night’s sleep, you’ll also feel more refreshed and ready to face the day. You might not realise it, but snoring

can affect your health too. Snoring is often one of the first symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), a condition where you stop breathing in your sleep. This can lead to high blood pressure, which increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. Symptoms of OSA include loud snoring, exces- sive daytime sleepiness and choking or gasping during sleep. If you suspect you have OSA, you should visit your doctor to explore

your treatment options. One possi- bility is a CPAP machine; this comes with a mask that you wear over your face at night. However, many people find CPAP uncomfortable or incon- venient to use. A less intrusive option is an oral

device (sometimes called a mandib- ular advancement device, or snoring

mouth guard). These devices are similar to gum shields, and treat snoring and OSA by holding your jaw forward during sleep. This helps to keep your airway open, allowing you to breathe easily and quietly. The Snoreeze Oral Device is a boil-and- bite mouth guard that can be moulded at home in under five minutes.

Dealing with snoring can give

you more energy, and help you lead a happier, more active lifestyle. By taking the first step to a better night’s sleep, your health and your relation- ship will reap the rewards.
