Unlocking your child’s potential

Family healthcare The Modern Family 37

With the school year drawing to a close, many children are crawling to the end of their exams in a state of emotional fatigue, while their equally exhausted parents are relieved it’s all over for another year. However, some parents have a hunch their child is underperforming, relative to his or her intelligence

F or many children, the skills required to do well in a pressurised

academic environment don’t come easily. This is, more often than not, the case for the increasing numbers of children labelled as dyslexic, dyspraxic, ADHD, ASD or those with speech and language difficulties. Many

perfectly

smart, capable chil- dren just can’t access or express their intelligence

because The Key Clinic

“Most parents are completely unaware that there’s much that can be done to treat the underlying causes of these difficulties — long term and without the use of drugs.” The Key Clinic specialises in helping children thrive through tailor-made, neuroplastic

therapy opens its first London clinic this

something is literally ‘blocking’ their way. These children have to work much harder than their classmates to compen- sate. They’re left feeling different, frustrated and helpless. Frequently, they talk of being ‘stupid’ and their self-confidence is low. Sarah Warley, psychologist and founder of The Key Clinic, explains:

programmes. It’s the first clinic of its kind to provide the most effective evidence- based

therapies

together under one roof. This allows for complete, 360-degree evaluation, ensuring only the most relevant thera-

pies — most likely to be ‘game-

changers’ — are recommended. The clinic’s work is based on

neuroscience’s discovery over the past decade that the brain remains flexible and capable of rewiring

itself, so problems that have previ- ously been considered life sentences can be overcome — provided the right stimulation or ‘key’ is provided to the brain. Sarah Warley explains: “I’m keen

to avoid the knee-jerk reaction to reach for drugs or to prop chil- dren up with endless, costly, extra tuition. It’s possible to give the nervous system a second chance to develop, so children can do consid- erably better, with less effort. Here at The Key Clinic, we help to turn on the neurological ‘autopilot’ that most of us take for granted.” After an online questionnaire and

a screening assessment have been completed, a bespoke programme of specific treatments is recommended for the child, combining therapies such as neurodevelopmental exer- cise programmes, customised audi- tory therapy, advanced biomedical interventions and cranial osteop- athy. Programmes take between 10 days and three months to complete and, while some results are noticed immediately, it’s up to six months post-treatment that the full, long- lasting effects are seen. One parent recently commented:

“It’s now been roughly a month since our daughter’s last session. Every day we’re

seeing improvements

in her temperament, her ability in her school work and in her overall mood, coordination and wellbeing. We keep pinching ourselves… and couldn’t be any more grateful, and thankful, for the clinic’s help and commitment.” Another parent had

this to say: “I now have two very different children — the change really is outstanding.” If you have any concerns that your

child may be held back by learning or behavioural difficulties, contact The Key Clinic to give them the future they deserve.
