32 The Modern Family Family days out & attractions

A fun, interactive summer at WWT London

This summer, children have the chance to become a Wetland Explorer at London Wetland Centre

F

rom Saturday 20 July to Sunday 1 September, there will be loads

of exciting wetland challenges to embark upon, including pond dipping, wild painting and raft building. Head to WWT’s Wetland HQ where you can pick up a FREE trail map and set off into the wild to get wet and muddy and learn explorer skills through the wild play challenges and NEW ‘Swamp Survival Squad’. It’s going to be a fun day out for the whole family! When all the visitors have gone

and dusk starts to fall over the reserve, the London Wetland Centre transforms into a truly captivating place. Families are invited to expe- rience the magic of the centre after- hours with the Children’s Night Safaris from 2-30 August (Friday’s only). The

team will take visi-

tors on a night adventure, building dens, listening to and looking for nocturnal wildlife, and sharing stories around a roaring campfi re. These safaris are suitable for chil- dren aged seven and over. Alternatively, learn about one centre’s less well-known

of the

mammals during one of the evening Bat Walks on Thursday

22 and

Thursday 29 August. These walks give visitors the opportunity not only to learn more about these incredible

animals during a talk

hunting overhead. Suitable for adults and children aged eight and over. There are even more chances to

see parts of the reserve not normally open to visitors. During the Grazing Marsh Walk on Monday 8 July, the warden will guide visitors around the grazing marsh and explain how it’s managed for a variety of birds. Visitors will get a rare opportunity to see what kind of wildlife lives in an urban marsh.
