Rely on Swale Heating to keep you warm

Swale Heating wants to ensure customers are making the most out of their heating systems by being as energy efficient as possible. Staff often share with customers helpful tips and pointers to help them reduce their energy bills

energy bills: H

1. Turning your central heating ther- mostat down by one degree. It could cut your heating bill by £55 per year.

2. If you have a programmer, personalise it to ensure that when you’re out the heating will not be left on costing you money.

3. Modern technology can help you to reduce the energy consumed by 40% with an efficient room ther- mostat and ‘TRVs’ (thermostatic radiator valves).

4. You can reduce your energy consumption by up to a third by upgrading to a new A-rated boiler model — research from the Energy Saving Trust suggests that you could save as much as £350 per year by making the move from an old G-rated boiler to a new efficient A-rated boiler

ere are Swale Heating’s top 10 tips on how to reduce your

model. If every household in the country installed a high–effi- ciency boiler, the energy saved would be enough to provide heating and power for almost two million homes.

5. Ensure that you’ve draught- proofed your home by inspecting all gaps around doors and windows as well as holes such as letterboxes, keyholes and pet doors. However, make sure that you’re not blocking any vents that the heating requires to operate.

6. Remember that turning up the heat will not speed up the warming of your home. Your heating doesn’t need to be set to higher than 60C (140F). If this heat is any higher, your boiler will combine it with cold water to cool it down.

7. Buy a new insulation jacket for your hot water tank — around £12. It should be 75mm or three inches thick and it can save you around £35 per year.

8. If you improve the energy efficiency of your home, by installing loft or cavity wall insulation, your house will heat up and cool down at a different rate. Insulation can help reduce up to 30% of heat loss through the roof of your property.

9. Have your boiler serviced regu- larly. If you’re annually servicing your boiler, you’re much less likely to have to deal with emer- gency repairs and will be likely to reduce bills.

10. Replace your baths with some showers. Having a bath every day instead of a five-minute shower can use about 13,000 litres more water a year. The average Brit could more than halve their climate impact simply by cutting out baths and making their showers shorter and cooler.
