Financial planning & charitable donations Charity matters
Charities across the UK are facing a loss of donations due to cancelled fundraising events, but an increase in demand for support and services. Words: Mattie Lacey-Davidson

risk of contracting coronavirus; not only are they unable to isolate themselves but many already suffer with respiratory and other illnesses. St Mungo’s and Crisis are working in outreach to provide shelter, healthcare and provision, which is especially needed during the pandemic. a nationwide network of food banks to help provide emergency food and support to people in poverty, while also campaigning for change to end the need for food banks in the UK. A third of people who visit food banks are in employment, but their income doesn’t cover the cost of essentials, while another third is struggling to access benefits due to delays or changes. Another food supply charity is FareShare, which is fighting hunger and food waste by redistributing good quality, in-date surplus food to frontline charities across the UK.

facing mounting pressure due to the NHS’s focus on fighting coronavirus. Te Stroke Association, for example, has reported a decrease in people calling 999 — with no evidence that strokes are decreasing, they assume people are avoiding calling for an ambulance even though they need it. Te new way of life the UK
has to follow will have a huge effect on people across the UK. Mental health charity Mind has an online hub that provides advice, including practical tips on coping with staying at home, tips for employers, and updates on how the new coronavirus laws could affect individuals’ rights.
