HOLLYWOOD HIGHLIGHTS! | 25
Kingdom replete with Princess Peach and Bowser Castles. It is in the latter where a Mario Kart ride takes you on a VR journey through the classic and new games finishing off at the first ever Rainbow Road. Reader, I could not have written this description without Fred’s input.
Digital coins collected on a Power- Up Band allowed Fred to share his score with fellow Nintendo fans. And after all this immersive fun, we headed to Toadstool Café where Piranha Plant Caprese,
Bowser’s
Fireball Challenge and Super Star Lemon Squash were among the menu
faves giving those Super Mario vibes. With every inch of SUPER NINTENDO
WORLD explored, we still had enough time to take the Studio Tour and escape the wrath of Jaws and King Kong. Jurassic World, Minion Land and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter continued to enthral. And the WaterWorld live show that wowed us way back in 2022 once again delivered a thrilling fire-fuelled extravaganza that definitely didn’t disappoint second time round. This is one LA destination everyone should see. It was day four in Hollywood and time for a
final tootle round the sights in a Big Bus hop- on, hop-off tour. And hop-off we did at stop 9 for the Original Farmers Market. If fame is Hollywood’s calling card, food must run it a close second. Serving visitors since 1934, this vast expanse of eateries is as much a magnet for tourists as it is a laid-back daytrip for real life superstars. Armed with my android, I fully expected to pap Kim Kardashian chowing down at The Gumbo Pot or Harry
and Meghan sharing California Rolls at Hoki Sushi. Needless to say, my celeb- spotting sojourn was a dud, but my Philly Cheesesteak was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. And everyone else devoured their dishes in the central street food space amid pampered pooches and achingly hip toddlers. What a treat! Adjoining the Market is The Grove, a retail experience reflecting its proximity to swanky Beverly Hills. Think Belfast’s Victoria Square meets Disneyland, with a gleaming trolleybus
gliding shoppers
round a glistening fountain surrounded by high street and high-end food and fashion outlets.
Four ice-creams and a Big Bus back to base later, and we were ready to drop the mic on the first leg of our US trip. Next stop Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon followed by San Diego. We’ve a lot more to explore but, as Bogart (almost) said to Bacall… we’ll always have Hollywood.
