10 MOUNTAIN GORILLAS
Africa’s gentle giants are one of ecotourism’s success stories. They’re still endangered, but the money and attention generated by responsible travellers has seen their populations grow. A permit system limits visitor numbers and raises revenue, and the gorilla family groups are guarded by rangers. Clients will trek through the jungle to reach the gorillas, and then spend an hour watching them feed, groom and play.
Book it: Splash out on Natural World Safaris’ Ultimate Gorilla Safari with up to seven gorilla tracking experiences, visiting mountain gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda, and western lowland gorillas in Republic of the Congo. The 17-day trip starts at £13,165, excluding permits and flights.
