Adventures near and far

Even with only a week to spare, clients can find exciting trips in Europe and beyond, writes Joanna Booth

W

hen you’re waiting for something – exam results, or the next episode of your favourite show – a week

can last forever. When you’re on holiday, it rushes by. Still, you can pack a lot into seven

days – even going long-haul, if you’re savvy. Clients can trek, dive and hike, and explore terrain from deserts to mountains to snow-laden wilderness – all with just a week out of the office.

Short-haul If clients don’t want to waste their precious adventure time in transit, they can find thrills in the British Isles. There’s not a coach in sight on Haggis Adventures’ West Highland Way Adventure, with clients mountain biking, hiking, canoeing and sea kayaking the 96 miles from Glasgow to Fort William. The six-day trip (£829) will showcase shimmering lochs and sweeping glens, with the chance to spot seals, otters and cormorants. If clients want to dive in between continents, all they’ll need is a long weekend. Iceland’s Silfra fissure is a rift

between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in the Thingvellir National Park, and visitors can dive or even snorkel in the crack between the continents. This is some of the clearest water in the world, with visibility of up to 100 metres. Dive Worldwide offers two dives at Silfra with drysuits and all equipment provided, plus flights, three nights’ accommodation with breakfast and sightseeing, from £945. Summiting North Africa’s highest peak can be done in five days. Explore’s Toubkal Long Weekend whisks clients to Marrakech and then on a trek through the Atlas Mountains to the top of Mount Toubkal, at 4,167 metres. Panoramic views and Berber hospitality are on offer, with this five-day tour (from £531 including flights, accommodation, and the services of a tour leader and trek crew).

Dubai is more mid-haul than short, but with good regional connections the United Arab Emirates doesn’t feel like too long a hop – particularly when clients have dune bashing, camping in the desert and a visit to a camel souk to look forward to. Intrepid Travel’s
