Story: Scrapping P&O service charges will drive new-to- cruise bookings, say agents This is a nice PR move by P&O Cruises, although it’s likely that the removal of this cost will lead to inflated cruise fares. NCL operates a similar system with its all-inclusive fares.

Story: Clia boss extols cruise safety after Brit falls from ship Having been on numerous cruises, including several in very rough weather, I would say that it is almost impossible to “fall” off of a cruise ship. It is essential that a full investigation into this incident is made public. The impression given to potential cruisers is that travelling on a cruise ship is unsafe – when the truth is that it is one of the safest forms of travel.

Story: Tui banned from advertising October as part of summer Technically, the ASA is correct. However, for over 50 years, travel operators have always had two seasons for their brochures, advertising them as summer or winter. I’ve never had any confusion with any customers during my 40 years in the business. This case is complaining for complaining’s sake, and wipes out 50 years of established procedures that everyone understood (except, apparently, the person who complained).

Story: No-deal Brexit warning on flights An industry observer says “it would be inconceivable that no deal will be done in regard to aviation”. I’m sorry, but he is completely wrong in this. The EU has made it clear there will be no aviation deal unless the withdrawal agreement is completed, especially with regards to the Irish border backstop. The secretary-general of the EC, Martyn Selmayr, made this position very clear. This is why I really hope there is no agreement on the Irish border. An aviation deal would prevent us from fully leaving the remit of the European Court of Justice and regaining full control of our borders and airspace. GAYLE LOUISE STEPHEN
