JOURNEY THROUGH TIME IN JORDAN

Ancient wonders meet outdoor adventures in Jordan G

olden beaches, otherworldly landscapes and ancient civilisations are just some of what you can expect from a

trip to Jordan. Cosmopolitan cities, like the capital Amman, are full of historic sites and traditional markets, while well-known spots such as the Dead Sea, Petra and Wadi Rum are worth a visit. Royal Jordanian, Wizz Air and British

Airways fly direct to Jordan from London so it’s all easy to reach in just over five hours.

City to sea

When visiting Jordan, Amman makes an ideal base, where clients can visit the shops and restaurants on Rainbow Street, explore the Roman Theatre and Amman Citadel, and visit souks and museums. Just an hour north is Jerash, one of the world’s best- preserved Roman towns. To connect with the religious side of Jordan, key places such as the site of Jesus’ baptism at ‘Bethany beyond the Jordan’, are a short drive away. For a taste of Jordanian hospitality recommend your clients try traditional foods such as national dish mansaf, made

with lamb, yoghurt and rice. Head south and clients will find the vibrant city of Aqaba on the Red Sea, where scuba diving, snorkelling and beautiful beaches can be enjoyed year- round – perfect for a winter sun break.

Great outdoors One of Jordan’s most famous attractions is the archaeological site of Petra, where travellers can visit the iconic Treasury, the Monastery and preserved ruins and carvings. Just south lies Wadi Rum, a protected landscape of sand dunes, monoliths and rock formations. Adventurous clients can traverse the dunes by camel, horse or 4x4. Visitors can spend the night in a traditional Bedouin camp, stargazing and trying zarb, a traditional dish that’s cooked underground. Equally inspiring activities can be found at the Wadi Mujib gorge, where hiking trails wind through canyons, passing waterfalls and natural pools. Close by is the Dead Sea, which is bursting with minerals that visitors can soak in while floating in the water.
