TAP offers five-day free stopovers

TAP Air Portugal is pushing Porto and Lisbon as stopover destinations following the launch of its route from London City to the former.
The Portuguese carrier flies to
10 destinations in Brazil, 14 in Africa, the US and Toronto as well as Madeira and the Azores from its Portuguese bases. It is now allowing agents to
book tickets with a stop of up to five nights in either city for no extra cost for customers travelling to onward destinations. For the UK market, TAP is
targeting holidaymakers heading for Madeira and the Azores. It is also looking to capitalise on US and Brazilian travellers coming to Europe for multi-centre trips. Marketing co-ordinator Joana
Picoto Belchior said: “It’s like two destinations for the price of one.

Most of the time people are going via Lisbon anyway, and this is a great way to see the city. We are offering up to five nights whereas other cities that offer stopovers usually allow just 48 hours. “We have exclusive deals with hotels and providers
of experiences, so extras are included too.” She said the London City-Porto
route was “a dream” as it opened up the market to Portugal’s second city and onward destinations from central London. Flights began on March 25 and
operate daily except on Saturdays, with one-way fares from £71. TAP also flies twice-daily to Porto from Gatwick, with fares from £41. To Lisbon, the carrier operates
regular services from Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Manchester. Its twice-daily London City- Lisbon route, which began last
October, is priced from £71.
